The following excerpt on the origins of the sandwich has been quoted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandwich.

"In 18th century England, John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich started asking his cooks for "meat tucked between two pieces of bread". As others looked up to Lord Sandwich, people began ordering "the same as Sandwich!", and the name developed from there.

It is said that Lord Sandwich favoured this method of eating as it allowed him to keep his hands free from grease from the meat thereby allowing him to play cards while eating."

Well, much has changed since then, and people have swapped their playing cards for iPads, but the sandwich is still the most popular lunchtime food in England, and here at Spreads Cafe we do it proud.

With our large range of bread, our huge selection of fillings, and our staff that are ready to build your sandwich to order, you will certainly leave satisfied.
